The town of Silverthorne, Colorado, is a home rule municipality in Summit County. As of the 2010 Census, the town has a population of 3,887. There are many activities and attractions that visitors can enjoy. You can hike up Ptarmigan Peak, go mountain biking at Keystone, or visit Rainbow Park.
Lake Dillon
Lake Dillon, sometimes referred to as Dillon Reservoir, is a large body of water in Summit County, Colorado. It borders the towns of Dillon and Silverthorne and is a reservoir for the city of Denver. The Denver Water Company manages the lake.
The town is a great place for families with kids to take advantage of its numerous amenities. There is a Silverthorne Recreation Center with a 65,000 square-foot space that offers a variety of activities. It offers four pools with three water slides and an indoor gym with weights and cardio equipment. The center also has a sauna and steam room.
Another fun activity is boating on Lake Dillon. You can rent pontoon boats, kayaks, or waterskis. There is also a water taxi that runs between the marinas. A bicycle ride around the lake is also a great way to relax. A Disc Golf course is also near the water, and there is even a kid’s course.
Mountain biking is another great activity. In addition to mountain biking, you can try fly fishing. The Blue River is a great place for fly fishing throughout the year. There are also lessons available for beginners.
Ptarmigan Peak
Located north of Dillon, Colorado, the Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness is a large area of wilderness spanning 12,760 acres in the Williams Fork Mountains. It was designated as a wilderness area in 1993. The area is accessible to hikers and climbers alike and is one of the best places to experience Colorado’s beautiful mountains.
Hiking up Ptarmigan Peak is a great way to experience the area. The trail starts out as a gentle climb through a dry sagebrush area and connects with a footpath and 4WD road. The trail then gradually rises and descends before reaching the summit.
The Ptarmigan Fire is currently burning around 30 to 40 acres and is threatening more than 650 homes in the Silverthorne, Colorado area. It is located near the Dillon Reservoir and Ptarmigan Peak. Firefighters plan to use tactical firing operations to protect structures and are en route to the west side of the fire.
The town is home to a variety of beautiful homes with spectacular views. One of the more popular rentals is the Adventure Base Camp For Family Gatherings, which has 6 bedrooms and is located about two miles from the base of Ptarmigan Mountain. Another popular rental is the Large Home With Stunning Views of Lake Dillon and the Summit. This home can accommodate up to 18 guests and has a waterfront deck and a fireplace.
Ptarmigan Peak is the highest peak in the South Williams Fork Mountains. It is situated just north of Dillon, CO in the White River National Forest. From the summit, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Williams Fork Mountains, Lake Dillon, and the Tenmile Range.
Rainbow Park
If you are looking for a great park in Silverthorne, look no further than Rainbow Park on Rainbow Drive. This seven-acre park offers a variety of activities for children of all ages. It features a skate park, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, and playing fields. There are also restrooms and picnic tables located within the park. Trent Park is also located nearby.
The park has a unique color scheme to represent the rainbow. It is surrounded by jagged peaks and groves of aspen trees. It is also connected to the Summit County trail system. The Public Works Department maintains a number of outdoor recreation areas, including public tennis courts, skateboarding parks, sledding hills, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions. The town also has a number of hiking trails that are perfect for exploring the mountain.
There is also a skateboard park, a multi-purpose field, a basketball court, and 2 sand volleyball courts. There is also a children’s playground and three picnic shelters. The bowl-shaped field is often used as an amphitheater and is a great place to have a community event.
Keystone Downhill Mountain Biking
If you want to try downhill mountain biking, Keystone is a great place to go. The downhill trails here are groomed and lift serviced, and there are a few different routes to choose from. Trails like Let it Ride are great for intermediates, while more advanced riders can hit up the black diamond Paid in Full. Views of Loveland Pass are breathtaking!
Keystone Resort has some of the best downhill mountain biking terrain in Summit County. The trails are varied in length and difficulty, and some even go into abandoned mines. You can ride these trails either using the park’n-ride system or through a lift, or you can go off-piste and get on a dirt bike.
While Keystone is not a popular downhill biking resort, there are trails for all levels of riders, and the scenery is stunning. The lift system allows easy access to the mountain, but you can also bike up to the top yourself. Jackstraw Road is a rocky, wide dirt road that is approximately a two-hour ride from Keystone.
The Keystone Bike Park is home to some of the country’s most challenging downhill trails. Trails here include berms and bridges, and beginner and expert downhill challenges. The park also features more than 100 miles of single-track and a skill park.
Sunshine Cafe Restaurant
Sunshine Cafe Restaurant is located in Silverthorne and has a great menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Open from 7am until 3pm, this popular restaurant is family friendly and a local favorite. The cafe’s menu is full of classic American dishes like waffles, pancakes, and eggs benedict. Other items on the menu include sandwiches, salads, and vegetarian options.
The Sunshine Cafe has been open for three and a half years and recently expanded to accommodate more patrons. This addition added an additional 1,800 square feet and increased seating capacity to 97. The owners were honored with an oversized check from the City of Silverthorne, Colorado, for their hard work. During the renovation process, the owners cited the old book, “Pioneers of Summit County,” as their inspiration.
If you’re looking for an affordable lodging option, the Silver Inn offers a complimentary breakfast and snacks to its guests. Another lodging option is the Quality Inn & Suites Summit County, which features 57 rooms and plenty of space for families. There are a variety of restaurants in Silverthorne, from fast food to fine dining.
